'Overwhelmed' by abandoned pets, cat charities
After a "unprecedented" number of pets were turned in this year for the "silliest reasons," a cat charity is hosting a rehoming day.
Peterborough Cat Rescue (PCR) is a small volunteer organisation that assists the city's homeless and stray cats in finding new homes.
With at least 100 pets found new homes each month, the charity claimed to be inundated with "abandoned" animals, some of which were found abandoned in cages by the side of the road.
It urged pet owners to take appropriate action and neuter their animals.

"But they are being irresponsible by not getting the cats neutered and that's why we are left with such high numbers of kittens."
On Saturday, Bedford Hall in Thorney, Peterborough, is hosting a rehoming day.
The nonprofit anticipates a successful day where many "unloved" cats find new homes.
